James Ammons Jr was born on October 20, 1940 in Centre, Alabama to Alverlee Ammons and J.P. Ammons. He attended Hatcher High School and graduated in 1959. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Emma Landrum. James and Emma married in July 1962, moved north, and made their home in Cleveland, Ohio. To this union, two children were born, Regina and Diedra.
James found work as a cook and hospital orderly before finding his career as a lab technician, chemist and chief chemist in the steel mills in the downtown flats area. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed buying new cars, sports, walking, riding with his motorcycle club (GWRRA-Gold Wing Road Riders Association), and traveling with his wife and family. Later, he became interested in real estate. He purchased and managed multiple properties in the Cleveland area until he could no longer maintain them. The last decade or so of his life, he battled Alzheimer’s with his wife by his side until her passing.
James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Emma; parents Alverlee Ammons and J.P. Ammons; sisters Mattie Ruth and Pauline Ammons; and brother Lamar Ammons.
He leaves to mourn two daughters Regina Dinkins (Tyrone) and Diedra Ammons; 1 sister Alma Dixon; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.
