James Delanio Dawson, age 70, passed away on May 20, 2024.

James was a graduate of Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio. He was a self-employed contractor. After many years of self-employment, James retired and worked part-time at Grace Cathedral in the Security Department.

James was a faithful member of Grace Cathedral, and their church choir. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help others.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and Cornelius Dawson; sisters, Gloria Williams and Gladine Dawson; brothers, Ben and Clarence Dawson; brothers-in-law, Curtis Williams, David Clark Jr., Josh Moss and sister-in-law, Gloria Dawson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings, Joyce Clark, Betty Moss, Lenwood (Diane Miller) Dawson, and sister-in-law, Jackie Dawson, along with many other family members and friends.

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of James. I have lots of great memories of him. We attended grade school at Crouse Elementary school and he was my first crush. I was a hall-guard and I had to always remind him to walk and not run in the halls. We attended Buchtel H.S, but we never got a chance to connect as much. However I am oftened reminded that none of us is here to stay, we are all just passing thru. RIP James!

James was a frieidly face in our church congregation. He was so happy to be part of the choir and I enjoyed hearing him sing. He was known to me and my sister as our "buffet Pop", watching over us on so many shifts. His smile and caring kindness will always be remembered, and he was a Christ-like example of the Word of God taught. I know your smile is shining even brighter in Heaven and I look forward to seeing you there in time. Thank you, James, for taking time to be part of my life and I thank Jesus your life was an example to me and others. Sending prayers and love to family and friends.

Dawson Family, James' beautiful smile and genuine caring personality radiated every time he spoke to a person. He has obtained the ultimate goal, Heaven! Keeping his family in prayers.

We will miss brother James. We will be sending bibles to the mission field in his honor so that his work will continue. Love and prayers for the family

James was a wonderful friend, we spent countless Sunday afternoons at the Cathedral Buffet enjoying good fellowship and the delicious food that had been prepared. I could count on James to be there at our special table where we shared the good things of the Lord. He showed his great love for the Lord in his service toward him in different ways. Heaven has truly gained a bright jewel.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I loved James so much. I was blessed by God to have been n the choir with him since 2003. He was a wonderful friend. He was a terrific worker. He was a great singer He pleased God. ."I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" (John 11:25,26).

Dear Dawson family, I have known James since the 1970s.We’ve been friends through the best of times and the worst of times. We worked security in the Grace Cathedral parking lot, shared a friendly Browns/Steelers rivalry, and cut grass together at various times. I was also a member of his wedding party. Through everything, J.D. was faithful to souls. He was my friend and my brother. May God bless and keep you in His loving arms. I join in your sadness at missing James. But I also join in the gladness that his pain is over and IIwill see him again, thanks to Jesus. God bless. Save me some bones and coffee, brother. I’ll see you soon.
