The Celebration of Life and Legacy of Sister Jean Jackson
Jean Delores Mosby-Jackson passed away peacefully January 10, 2022. She was born on March 5, 1938 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Matthew (Mack) and Mary Alice Mosby Williams. From this beautiful union six children were born, Jean being the first.
Jean was the type of person who valued education and educating others. She attended school in Cleveland, Ohio, Akron, OH and Hartford, Connecticut. She attended Cuyahoga Community College (1988-1989), and Case Western Reserve University where she graduated with a degree in sociology. She attended the Moody Bible Institute, in Akron, OH. Jean also received her practical nursing license in Hartford, Connecticut in 1963.
Jean had a passion for ministering and sharing the Gospel with others. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Elizabeth Baptist Church by the late Pastor Fred Hall in Cleveland, Ohio. Jean sung in the choir at Greater Friendship Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio from 1965-1968. She later joined Olivet Institutional Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Odie M. Hoover, and continued her service under Rev. Dr. Otis Moss, Jr., and Rev. Dr. Jawanza Karriem Colvin. Jean was an active member of Olivet where she sung in the choir and served in the birth month ministry. Jean went through a minister in training program at Olivet under Rev. Dr. Otis Moss Jr. Jean began a graduate from the Theological Seminary in Cleveland, OH in 1972.
Jean fell in love and married Jonah Walker, Jr. in Cleveland, Ohio in 1952 who has preceded her in death. Four children were born to this union: Ralph Walker (Linda) preceded her in death; Jonah Walker III (Rachel) Paducah, KY; Sharon K. Walker-Parker (Leroy) preceded her in death, and Sheila L. Walker, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It was later in life where Jean married William Irving Jackson in 1964 who has preceded her in death.
She worked for Strong, Cobb Arner Pharmaceutical & Company in Cleveland, OH from 1965-1971. Jean became a Private Duty Nurse for Odie M. Hoover from 1972-1973. She worked at Parker Hannifin, Motion and Control, Technologist from 1975-1978. Jean became a private duty nurse again for Sister Gloria James, the mother of Carol and Pat Hoover from 1978-2003 in Cleveland, Ohio. While also maintaining a job at the Cleveland Board of Education, where she was a teacher assistant from 1987-1993.
Jean loved spending time with her family and friends. She had a passion for gospel singing, gourmet cooking, and traveling. She was a lifelong member of the NAACP, NCPA, and NACW. She attended the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville, Tennessee yearly. Jean was the type of person who cared for others and was often sent to attend to their loved ones through their sicknesses and illnesses.
Jean is survived by her five siblings: James Williams (Cleveland, OH); Edward Williams (Lorain, OH); Shirley Lynch (Fayetteville, GA); RoseMary Snell (Decatur, GA); John Williams (Lawrenceville, GA). Two children: Jonah Walker III, (Paducah, KY); Shelia L. Walker (Murfreesboro, TN). Seven grandchildren: Mario R. Walker; Tanisha Walker-Wilson (Bryant); Semika Walker; Alicia Walker; Elliott Walker (Amanda); Rondell Walker (Meagan); Courtney Walker. Eleven great-grandchildren, one Goddaughter Loretta Bryson (Mario) and a host of loving relatives and friends.
