Jean Mitchell Hale was born August 12, 1936 in Birmingham (Bessemer), Alabama, the eldest from the union of William Mitchell Sr. and Louise Mitchell (both Deceased). Jean had two siblings, Gwendolyn Potts (Deceased) and William Mitchell Jr. Jean moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1947. Upon completion of elementary school, she went on to attend Patrick Henry Junior High and Glenville High School. After graduation, Jean worked as a medical assistant at the Poly Clinic and met James Brown (Deceased). Through this union, her eldest child, Pamela was born. Jean then met and married Ervin B. Johnson (Deceased); from their union Keith and Kevin Johnson were born. After the untimely death of Ervin Johnson, Jean married George R. Hale and from that union, the youngest daughter, Tracy Hale was born.
Jean, the epitome of strength, was a very outgoing and social person early on. She enjoyed being around family and friends, especially during holiday gatherings. Following the death of her late husband, George in 1985, she went back into medical assistance training and rejoined the work force, retiring from the State of Ohio Rehabilitation Services in 2000. Jean confessed Christ at an early age, as a member of St. Aloysius Church. She later attended St. Timothy Church, and finally joining her sister Gwen, she went to St. Cecelia Catholic Church, located in their home neighborhood. In her later years, she enjoyed challenging her mind by doing crossword puzzles and faithfully watching quiz shows like, The Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Jean entered into eternal rest on September 2, 2023 at the age of 87 and will be greatly missed. She was a grandmother, great grandmother and friend to those that know and love a loving sister, aunt, mother, her. She was preceded in death by: Father, William Sr., Mother, Louise, and Mother, Mildred “Mommie” Mitchell and Sister, Gwendolyn (Lamar) Potts. She leaves to cherish her memory: Brother, William “Billy” (Mary) Mitchell; Children: Pamela Brown, Keith (Juanetta) Johnson, Kevin Johnson and Tracy Hale; Grandchildren: Nichole (Lamont) Washington, Ricky (Amber)Brown, Lamone Brown, Eve (Andrei) Coley, Keitia Johnson, Kevin (Kyeisha) Johnson Jr., Keith Johnson, Perris Young, Kenneth Johnson, Kyle Johnson; 8 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear relatives and friends.
