Jean Lois (Wilson) Starks transitioned home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2020, at the age of 83 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Akron, OH on February 27, 1937, to the late Frank and Lovie (Grundy) Wilson. Jean was baptized at a young age and later met her husband as a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She graduated from both Garfield High School and the University of Akron with a B.S. in Education. She began her teaching career in Cleveland and retired after 30 years of service in the Akron Public Schools system. During that time, she married Willie James (Bill) Starks on August 22, 1964. They were married 54 years and to this union were born four children. Jean became a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing and fellowship. She also enjoyed latch hook, pottery, reading, shopping, and making Monkey Bread for family and friends. She was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Barberton’s Civic Fidelis Club, and the NAACP.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Timothy Bradley, and husband, Bill Starks.
She is survived by her children, Christi (Spencer) Boyd, Kira Bradley, James “Corey” (Tracey) and Karlton (Aliceia) Starks; grandchildren, Brittany Boyd, Spencer “Tre” Boyd III, Madison Starks, Catherine “McKenzy” Starks, Morqan Starks, Nyah Bradley, Tai Bradley, and Arianna Starks; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and close family friends.
