“Her Story”
Jennifer Joyce Dixon was born November 16, 1956 in Cleveland, Ohio to James O. and Sarah L. Banks. Jennifer was the fourth of six siblings (one sibling, Diane, preceded her in death during childbirth). Jennifer confessed her belief and love to God and was a child of the “Most High God.”
Jennifer was the middle sibling of her siblings. She had a special positioning and relationship with each of her siblings. Jennifer was close and connected with the older crew, Belinda and Darrell and close with Eric and Lisa, the younger two. Jennifer was the kind one. She was always consistent in how she interacted with you, always consistent and caring for whoever’s presence she was in.
Jennifer attended the Cleveland Public Schools where she was an active student. After graduating from high school, she attended The Ohio State University. She was a spirited bird and new what she wanted at an early age. In junior high school, she met the love of life, Tommie L. Dixon where they courted throughout her teen and young adult years.
At the age of 21, Jennifer and Tommie wed in the presence of their God and witnesses, Roy Taylor and Lisa (Banks) Reeves.
From this union, they had two inquisitive, intelligent, and determined daughters, Ebony Lakesha and Cinnamon DeAnn. She was extremely proud of both of her daughters and would often talk about them and smile when in their presence.
In Jennifer’s unique and special way, she had her own style and zest for life. Jennifer had a special passion and interest in fashion. She took pride in being fashionable with her hairstyles, makeup, and clothing. She also had a sense of adventure, not being afraid to travel and trying new things.
Jennifer enjoyed traveling with her husband, Tommie of 41 years. This king and his queen had a love affair like no other, filled with making memories, loving on each other, as well those they came in contact with. They met while attending John Adams High School, where Tommie worked steadfast to win over the love and affection of his future bride. During their marriage the couple lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana; Westland, Michigan, Fredericksburg Virginia and then returned back to Cleveland Ohio. While living in these places, she was consistent in being hopeful with a dream in her heart, a song in her spirit and a love for water. Jennifer enjoyed singing so much, she frequently would sing out loud and later joined the church choir of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Morning Star Baptist Church. Because of her love of water, Jennifer frequently went to the beach and would live in proximities where she could easily access the water.
Over the last 17 years, Jennifer found great fulfillment in participating in the life of her grandson, Cameron. She frequently attended his school performances, including concerts, athletic games and plays. Cameron brought Jennifer extreme joy and pride.
Jennifer entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 17, 2019. Although her life ended far too soon, she lived a life of pursuing the things that brought her joy and peace. Jennifer leaves a legacy of two talented, outspoken and self-determined daughters and a remarkable gifted grandson.
Jennifer is survived by her husband, Tommie L. Dixon; daughters, Ebony L. Dixon and Cinnamon D. Dixon; grandson, Cameron J. Dixon; siblings, Belinda Turner, Darrell Banks, Eric Banks and Lisa A. Reeves (Julius) and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.
