ABOUT HIS LIFE…
Jerry Walton was born on March 8th 1945 in Dayton, Alabama to the union of James Walton Sr. And Alberta Taylor – Walton. Jerry Accepted Christ at an early age at Pine hill Baptist Church in Dayton, Alabama. Growing up, he would help his father take care of his farm and his family, and by the age of 18 moved to Cleveland, OH where his uncle Richard Taylor resided. From there he would get his first job at a mattress factory and was able to settle into a life in the city. He later would meet his wife Shirley Walton and they began their life’s journey together. Jerry was a man who took pride in taking care of his family and worked hard to provide the best life possible for them. He eventually would land a job at Cleveland clinic where he retired, winning many awards such as “Isabel Smith Spirit of Excellence and dignity award” and recognition for his model of customer service. Always gracious and respectful, he was the most pleasant persons at Cleveland clinic children’s rehab. Jerry enjoyed many things such as singing and playing his guitar occasionally and once dreamed of having a songwriting career which led him to record a demo in a downtown Cleveland recording studio. His favorite artist was Sam cooke.
Jerry was an avid reader. He loved black authors such as James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni, Malcolm X to ame a few. He believed that learning about black culture and where we came from is important. He always was in tune with world events and supporting black business and black economics was important to him. His favorite food is good ol southern soul food.
He enjoyed helping others such as teaching his grandson how to drive, or serving the children at his job with serious illnesses. Jerry loved his reclining chair in the living room where he always enjoyed a great nap or conversations about sports, politics, etc. His favorite team is the Seattle Seahawks and Russel Wilson is his favorite quarterback. His favorite sportscaster is Stephan A Smith. Favorite sports athletes are Lebron James and Serena WIlliams.
Cherishing his memories are his wife, Shirley Walton; His six sisters Marleen sisters, Laura Curry (Faunsdale, AL), Mamie Naves, Janie (Randolph) Pittman, Ruth Hendrics all of Rochester, NY, Rose (Samuel) Vines of Rocky Mount, NC and Betty Walton (deceased); two aunts Carolyn Taylor and Sarah Taylor both of Birmingham, AL. His sister in law Susie Askew Aaron “AC”Askew (Deceased), Rudine Smith (Nathaniel deceased), Morline Holloway, Jackie
Holloway, Bobby Holloway (deceased). His brothers-in-law Vernon Holloway, Joe Frank Holloway . His daughter Trina Walton and his son Eugene Walton. His grandsons Darius Walton, Tyrone Gordon, Emod Walton, Xavier Walton and Kevin Page Jr. His Great grandson Montana Page and great granddaughter Aaliyah Gordon. Many Nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
