Joanne Jackson was born December 21st ,1959 to Harrison and Idella Evans in Starkville, Mississippi. She was the last of nine children born to this union.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a graduate of East Technical High School class of 1978. She married her childhood sweetheart Hosea, August 1, 1981. From this union three children were born Mark, Takisha, and Latoya.
Joanne was a hardworking person. She worked for the CMSD serving for 31 years. She began her career in housekeeping but most of her career was spent as a bus monitor weathering the storms to make sure students made it to school to receive an education. Glory be to God for her life’s work she retired in 2020.
Joanne was family oriented affectionately known as Cookie. She was always willing to be a listening ear, motivator, and ultimately being a mother figure to so many people. Joanne enjoyed family gatherings, especially holidays where she was known for making amazing dressing and macaroni and cheese.
Four sisters preceded her in death Alberta Evans, Susie Evans, Berphine Gibson, and Willa Dean Gilford and three special family members Brenda Gibson, Lawrence Gibson, and Inell Gibson.
Joanne was called home to be with the Lord on August 3, 2024, with her devoted husband by her side. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband Hosea Jackson Jr., Mother in- Law Josephine Jackson; Four children Mark (Carla), Fatima (Mike), Takisha and Latoya. Seven grandchildren Marcella, Dejah, Mykela, Kayin, Kimora, Michael and Mia. Two sisters Betty Devlin and Linda Baker, two brothers Edward Kelly and J.D Evans three nieces that were raised as sisters Sheryl (Angelo), Mary (Michael preceded), and Bernice. A best friend of 43 years Andretta Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews bonus children and longtime friends.
