John Henry Mullins, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on October 6, 2022.
Mr. John H. Mullins, Sr., age 81, was a City of Cleveland and Greater Cleveland resident for over 57 years. He and his wife, Gwendolyn Mullins, had two beautiful, successful and caring children – John Jr. and Vanessa.
He served in the United States Peace Corps and graduated with a Master of Education from Case Western Reserve University. He worked in two full-time positions as a Math Consultant Educator for the Cleveland Public Schools and as an Emergency Room Hospital Specialist for The Mt. Sinai Hospital, totaling 51 years of service to the betterment of the lives of the people living in the City of Cleveland. In fact, in 1967 he was active in supporting the campaigning efforts to elect the first African American, Carl Stokes to serve as mayor of a major U.S. city here in Cleveland. Also, he was recognized as a distinguished Martha Jennings Scholar for successfully educating students to excel in mathematics competitions.
He loved living in Cleveland, Ohio; cheered on his favorite Ohio sport teams, such as The Ohio State University Football, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Cleveland Guardians. Mr. Mullins was an honorable man indeed who served the Greater Cleveland communities and was a proud Masonic member of Excelsior Lodge #11.
He will be cherished and remembered for being an outstanding husband, father, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, cousin, friend, and resident whose life represented the success of living in Cleveland as a desirable, safe city in which one can live, study, work, raise a family, shop, play and grow old.
