John H. Lee, “Joe” went on to our Savior on June 26, 2023 while residing in The Winfield of Richmond Heights, Senior Living. He was born January 30, 1941 in Marion, Alabama. He was the second youngest child born to the late Elijah and Mary Ellen (Washington) Lee. Joe, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, served Ford Motor Company for 36 years before retirement and made Cleveland, Ohio his home.
Joe excepted Christ at the age of 12, was baptized at the Hopewell Baptist Church in Marion Alabama. Joe took on the mantle of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ in his mid-thirties. Joe loved life and lived it to the fullest and there was never a challenge that he could not overcome, including death.
Joe found enjoyment within himself, yet enjoyed the company of others especially his family. Beneath the veneer, he was a sensitive man, who felt deeply about matters, spoken and unspoken. He enjoyed listening to old school Baptist preachers, attending various churches in the community and enjoyed listening to gospel music. His favorite childhood gospel song was, “The Lord Will Make a Way Somehow” by Al Green.
Joe loved to sing, and play the harmonica. During his childhood years, Joe would often take the lead vocals in singing Gospel songs with his parents and siblings, and it was very evident at this time in his young life that the spirit of the Lord was upon him.
During his transition from this life, heartfelt farewells were spoken with his two sisters and his brother.
“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us and we also ought to lay down ours lives for the brethren- 1st John 3: 16 “
Joe was proceeded in death by his parents Elijah Lee and Mary Ellen (Washington) Lee, his brother, Willie Gene ( Bill) Lee ( 2018) and his wife Marilyn Maynard (2008).
Joe is survived by his brother, Elijah “Bubba” Lee (Evelyn), sisters Jeannette Pennyman and Lucille Underwood, from Cleveland, Ohio; stepsons Terry Maynard, Marquis Maynard; step daughter Michelle Maynard and a host of friends and family.
