John Jerome Dial, affectionately known by many as “Cousin Pot,” “Uncle Pot,” or “Brother Pot,” passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at Euclid Beach Nursing Home in Cleveland, Ohio. Born on June 5, 1954, to John and Icephine Slaughter, he was one of five children. He grew up in Cleveland, attended Cleveland Public Schools, and graduated from John Hay High School. During his youth, John accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.
John was employed at Case Western Reserve University, working in the cafeteria where he was admired for his good spirits and kind heart. He later served in nursing home cafeterias, continuing to brighten lives with his humor and compassion.
Known for his love of music, dancing, and joking-even if he couldn’t carry a tune-John brought laughter and warmth to every family gathering. After enjoying his meal, he was always ready to go, leaving behind smiles and fond memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Icephine Slaughter, and his brother, Gerald Slaughter.
