John Jones was born September, 25, 1923 in Birmingham, Alabama to Mr. and Mrs. M. Jones.
Upon graduating from Parker High School, John attended Morgan State College. Later, he was drafted into the United States Navy serving from 1943 until being honorably discharged in 1945.
John Jones and Vertis Hawkins grew up as childhood acquaintances and schoolmates in Birmingham. They later renewed their friendship and were married September, 24, 1955. From their union, one child, Brenda, was born.
John was a genuinely “true” family man. Not only was he devoted to his wife and daughter but also to his sisters-in-law and his brothers-in-law. He was “ready” to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, friends, and co-workers at the United States Postal Services where he served for many years.
The biggest decision John made in his life on Earth was when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior under the preaching of his Sister-in-Law, Dr. Johnnie Mae Brown. He served diligently and faithfully at Mt. Pleasant Church of God in Cleveland, OH.
John leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife, Vertis, his daughter, Brenda Jones and granddaughter, Tia-Marie. He also leaves his cousin and long-time friend, Easter Warren. Also, he leaves Sisters in laws; Janice Warren (Joseph), Dr. Christina Stringfellow (Allen), and Reverend Cynthia Thomas. In addition, he leaves Brothers-in-law, Erskine Hawkins (Rochelle) and Claude (Celia).
We will miss You John Jones!
