David Pace left a message on July 13, 2020:
I want to extend my condolences to the Reid family during this difficult time. I, like many others had the honor to work the same shift with Johnny! He was always the giant we needed when things were tough. His mere presence was a deciding factor in many incidents. However, his advice to me during our "down time" on shift will live on with me forever. I still think of a saying he told me when things get rough. Know that he left a legacy that will live on in the officers he worked with. I am honored to have known Johnny. Rest In Peace

I had the pleasure of working with Johnny several years ago while working in Cleveland. Johnny was an outstanding police officer and his personality made some of those long night shifts more tolerable. He always had our backs and treated everyone with kindness and respect. May God comfort you and your family during this time of sorrow.

Mike Piskura Sgt. (Retired) University Circle Police Dept. left a message on June 23, 2020:
First, to Johnny’s Family, Johnny was a good, kind and God-fearing man who made you feel proud to be his friend he would help you out in a minute if you asked him for anything. I'm so sorry for your loss. Like Jim Solary and Jack Clair, I also worked with Johnny at UCPD 26 + years. We worked the night shift for many years together some of our best and enjoyable moments were between 1-5 am it would be our lunchtime and it was spent at Mt. Sinai Hospital and Best Steak House we both like to eat. Of course, we were joined by other police officers, and the events of the night were discussed most of the time with much laughter that we needed at times. Johnny, you were more than a co-worker to me you were a good friend! I like a lot of others will remember you always. Rest in Peace, my Friend.
C. Cohen left a message on June 23, 2020:
I worked with Johnny for 25 years at UCPD. He was an excellent officer and a wonderful human being. He was kind, compassionate, with a strong sense of ethics, and a strong faith in God. Always thinking of others. Even after retirement, he would call former coworkers on their birthdays. If someone needed help he would be there for them privately. I am grateful I was able to speak with him a few days prior to his death. Out of pain now,. Rest easy. You will be missed.
Jim Solary left a message on June 23, 2020:
