Mrs. Johnsie Mae Gibson Spidell was born November 4, 1954, in Pinehurst, NC to John K. Gibson and Clara Q. Gibson. She was raised in Greensboro, NC and attended Dudley High School prior to moving to Akron, Ohio. After some time in Akron, Ohio she met and married Eugene Spidell, Jr.
Mae was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her girls through her many travels with her husband during his military service in Texas, Colorado and Hawaii. Her favorite past times were fishing, shopping and scratching her lottery tickets. Lottery tickets in hand she carried the biggest smile because she was content with her day. Whenever she met you she embraced you in her own way and was unforgettable when you left her. She was a fighter. The courage and pain she had, she kept going to the very end, yet kept those she loved and cherished spared from excessive pain. We will always keep her close to our hearts. She was told how much she was loved and thanked for giving us so much joy and happiness. Long live the beauty that came down, through, and onto all of us.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene Spidell, Jr.; parents, John K. Gibson and Clara Q. Gibson; siblings, Janice Gibson, Lillian Kearns, Virginia Turner and Shannon Gibson; and great grandson, Harlem Vamper.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Tammy T. Vamper, Tonya R. Vamper-Angelo (David), Tracy V. Vamper and Treva Vamper-Weaver (Calvin); sisters, Myrtle Perrin, Joyce Brown (Ricky), Frances Barrett, Rosalyn Gibson, Phyllis Carter (Keith); brothers, William Gibson, Larry Gibson, Dean Gibson (Tina), Dale Gibson (Tommyvette), David Gibson and William Gibson (Billy); grandchildren, Daquan Vamper, Damitri Vamper, Daminica Vamper-Simpson (Davon), Dayja Vamper, Treyshawn Vamper, Turquoria Vamper, Tarshikka Vamper, and Tyrell Vamper; great grandchildren, Hakeem Vamper and Hasean Vamper; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
