Joi Mills of Akron, Ohio, passed away on June 24, 2021. Joi was born in Akron on October 6, 1958. She was the first-born child to Jose Rentas and Rosa Lee Mills- Rentas. She attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from Garfield High School in 1977.
Joi recently worked for Rubbermaid for 10 years, last working for Popeye’s on Arlington Street and Burger King on Vernon Odom Blvd. She was a dedicated employee, working up until she became ill. Joi was the “Big Mama” for her family. She loved to have family gatherings, often hosting holiday get-togethers for her family. She enjoyed traveling several times a year with her family and grandchildren. She was also an avid line dancer and was previously a member of the Infinity Line Dancers of Akron. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her.
Joi was preceded in death by her son, Bernard Mills Sr.; mother, Rosa Lee Mills Rentas; father, Jose (Lavodia) Rentas Sr.; brothers, Stephen J. Crews and Frank Guin; sisters, Gloria Rentas, Ramona Rentas, Nerieda Riley and Diane Guin; nieces, Na’Kya, Na’Kia Crawford and Nerieda Bland.
She leaves to cherish her memory son, Antonio Mills; sisters, Lynn Williams, Renee Guin and Linda (Derek) Felton; brothers, Jose Rentas II, Carlos (Carmella) Rentas and Alexander Rentas; grandchildren, Bernard Mills Jr.; Arika Mills, DeJuan Mills, Sierra Rowles; great-granddaughter, Kiara Randley; nephews, Stephen G Crews, Roland Williams, Marcus Grice, Hezekiah (Latessa) Grice, Jose Rentas III and Travonte Salaam; nieces, Lisette Williams, Burieda (Damone) Riley, Kerida Beavers, Kesha Grice, Latrina Salaam, Sieada Salaam and Kelly Hardwick; special cousins, Rita Mills, Ada Aponte and Bobby Aponte; godson, Akambe Cames; great-nephews, Davontre Cohen, Malachi Paige, Tristan James and Kamar Parham, as well as a host of sisters-in-law, godchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.
