Tribute to My Father Writing this tribute has caused me to reflect on the moments we shared and the impact you had on my life. Although I did not have the privilege of growing up with you during my early childhood years, I am grateful for the intentional efforts you made to build a relationship with me when we eventually came together as a family in my teenage years. Some of my fondest memories are the quiet moments we shared late at night. We would talk about different things, watch movies, played board games and spend time together watching the Super Bowl games you had carefully recorded over the years. This way you introduce me to football. You patiently explained the game to me and made those moments enjoyable. Looking back now, I realize those simple moments were your way of connecting with me. One thing that stood out about you was your willingness to help others. Our home was always open, and you never hesitated to support anyone who needed accommodation, encouragement, guidance, or a helping hand. Whether it was your students, colleagues, friends, or family members, you gave of yourself generously. You found joy in serving others and making a difference in their lives. As I reflect on your life, I can see how that spirit of generosity and selflessness has been passed on to your children. My sisters and I learned, in different ways, the importance of showing up for people, extending kindness, and being willing to help where we can. Your example taught us that a meaningful life is not measured by what we accumulate, but by the lives we touch. You were also a wonderful grandfather. My children loved you dearly, and you created memories with them that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. Your influence, wisdom, and love will continue to live on through them. Today, I choose to remember your kindness, your generosity, and your commitment to helping others. Thank you for the memories we shared, the lessons you taught, and the legacy you leave behind. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord… that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:13 May God grant you eternal rest and perfect peace. Sleep on! Sun re ooo baba mi owon. Baba Subuola! Baba Abosede! Baba Olanrewaju! Oko Dolapo! Your daughter

Some of you may have known him as Daddy Scott or Mr. Scott, but I knew him as a great man and an amazing grandfather. As sad as this moment is, I know he is in a better place. I would like us not to focus only on the sadness of losing him, but also on the joy of having known him, because he is now at peace. One night, as I was getting ready for bed, I found myself thinking about the times I spent at Grandpa’s house in Nigeria. Those are memories I will always cherish. I love food, and Grandpa always made sure I was well fed. He made sure my siblings and I had everything we needed and felt loved and cared for during this time at his house, and him sneaking money into our pockets will always be a core memory I cherish. One memory that especially stands out is when he tried to teach me how to ride a bike. All of my siblings already knew how, but I didn’t. Grandpa took it upon himself to teach me. Even though I still don’t know how to ride a bike today, I appreciate the time and patience he gave me. In fact, I might just pick up a bike and try again in his honor. What I’m trying to say is that we shouldn’t dwell only on our loss. Instead, we should remember the good times, the laughter, the love, and the memories he gave us. That’s how I want to remember my grandfather a kind, caring, and joyful man who always made sure
