Joseph “Joe” Lee Grimes Sr., was born on December 18th, 1949 to the late Annie Parker in Selma, Alabama.

Joe moved to Cleveland, Ohio in the 70’s where he became the owner and operator of Joe’s Garage with his son Jeffrey working by his side.

He was a member of St. Agnes Our Lady of Fatima Church, where he and Sylvia were married and could be seen sitting in their favorite spot in the back, until his health started to decline.

In his spare time, Joe loved to spend time with his family and go fishing. He and Sylvia loved to travel and attend various festivals.

He never wanted to fly, so Sylvia would graciously take those long, long road trips to various vacation spots with her Mister. Their favorite vacation destination was New Orleans.

Joe was always looking to build something and at any given moment, when he had an idea, he would do a Home Depot run and come back with a bunch of 2×4’s.

Sylvia would jokingly tell him that she didn’t see his vision and he would only wink, laugh and say you will.

He took pride in and kept an immaculate, manicured lawn. All who knew him did not dare step foot on it. He would get a kick out of strangers walking by and asking him for his landscaper’s phone number. When he wasn’t doing projects around the house, he would relax and watch old western movies or a basketball game.

For the past 20 years, he and Sylvia held their annual summer fish fry that all who attended looked forward to.

Joe loved to cook and enjoyed watching everyone come together every year for “The Fry”.

On March 4th, 2024, Joe took God’s hand with his Sylvia by his side.

Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Annie Parker, his sister, Annie Lewis, his brothers Roy Parker, Willie Grimes, David Grimes, James “J Byrd” Parker, and his aunts Mattie Smith and Penny Grimes.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Sylvia, who affectionately called him Mister, his brother Otto “Sonny” Parker (Rosie) of Selma, Alabama, his sons Terry Grimes (Kia), Joseph “Shorty” Grimes Jr., Joseph “Pup” Dotson (LaKeeta), James Dotson (Tianna), Jeffrey Grimes-Dotson (Carla), Justin Grimes and Brandon Williams, his daughters Peggy “Bill” Boyd, Pam Grimes, Shy Grimes, Tiesha Grimes (Jeffrey) and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
