Joseph Maurice Glover was born on August 7, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the eldest son of Joseph and Ruby Glover. Although Joe attended Glenville High School, he transferred to John Adams for his senior year. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1965.
Joe began working for the United States Postal Service as a temporary employee to help with the holiday season. Later, he was hired as a full-time mail carrier and retired in 1998. After retirement, Joe cared for his chronically ill grandson and his aging father.
Joe was an avid reader and sports fan. He spent countless hours in the library reading. Joe watched all sports but his favorites were baseball, basketball, and football. He coached Pee Wee football in his younger years. Joe would affectionately send close family and friends a text when one of the Cleveland professional sports teams won “Cavs Win!” Throughout his life he frequently attended professional sports games. Additionally, he attended most of the extracurricular events that his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter participated in. He was their #1 fan!
In December 2015, Joe had a heart attack and was hospitalized. After recovering, Joe began walking 5k races with his daughters. Then he began to encourage and invite everyone that he knew to participate in the races with him and his family. Joe would participate in 5k races no matter the season, often saying, “This weather doesn’t bother me, I used to carry mail in this weather.” He began participating in senior walks through the Cleveland Department of Aging’s “Walk the Wards” program. In 2021, Joe participated in all of the walks that the department held at various locations around the city.
On May 9, 2022, Joe traded his walking shoes for wings and went home to be with the Lord. He is joining his parents, brother Lawrence, and grandson Larry Scott Jr. Joe leaves to celebrate his life and to cherish his memory three children: Denise, Joseph (Crystal), and Jessamyn; grandchildren Roderick Jamall, Joseph Jamarr, Jaylen, great grandchild Mia and a host of family and friends.
