Joey Poulson was born in Akron Ohio on March 22, 1977, to the late Lillian Poulson and Douglas Newsome. Although he never met his father, Joey was the best dad and dedicated his life to his children.
Joey was a natural entrepreneur, becoming a self-taught barber at just 12 years old. He turned his skills of entrepreneurship and barbering into a successful, lifelong career of 32 years. He married the love of his life whom he adored, Lataysia, on July 8, 2000. Together, they raised 6 children and stayed married until his passing.
He loved family gatherings with his children and grandchildren. He would play his favorite music until the sun came up! In the summer, Joey loved going to Sand Run to hit the trails. He also had a not-so-secret niche for cooking; whether it was on the grill or breakfast food, he got down in the kitchen! Joey had the best hot wings and macaroni and cheese. His family loved his specialty birthday cakes because he made them personal and with love, perfecting each one. If you knew Joey, you knew he loved to dress and his shoe games stayed on point – you couldn’t tell him anything, he knew he stayed fresh. Real love and loyalty are the fundamentals he lived by and strictly enforced the code to these around him.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Lillian Poulson; dad, Douglas Newsome; sister, Ukiche Noble; and grandson, King Jacob Joseph Wynn.
Joey leaves his legacy behind to his wife, Lataysia “Ducky” Poulson; daughters, Carmelita “teacher” Poulson, India Taylor and Teajia Fleming; sons, Sherod Clark, Joseph “Grandpa” Poulson Jr. and Joesiah Poulson; grandchildren, JayMicheal Wynn, JayZion “Habibi” Poulson, JayCoby “Denzel” Wynn, Dwayne “Frosty” Poulson, JayLynn Wynn, Zoeii “Zoe Pound” Poulson, Dior Taylor, Asad Clark and Zaine Poulson; brother, Donte Noble, Michael Poulson, Wesley Poulson and Douglas Newsome; sisters, Andraita Newsome, Ondraita Newsome and Shirley Noble; son-in-law, Dion Taylor; and his father figure, whom he held nearest and dearest to his heart, Uncle Ernie; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
