Heaven has gained another Angel. Joyce Jones was born to Galen and Jean Dickerhoof on January 17, 1938, and departed this life on September 11, 2020. Joyce (Mommie) lived in Akron all of her life, graduating from Garfield High School. She was a Cleveland Browns fan and loved drinking her Pepsi. She also loved playing the lottery scratch-off tickets.
She was employed at Rousch’s Grocery Store for many years. Later, she was employed at Lou & Hy’s Delicatessen, where she retired. She was a pure example of humility and strength. She faced such adversity as a white woman raising black children in the late fifties and early sixties at a time when it was frowned upon, but she never wavered. She held her head high and did an outstanding job. She was humble and quiet while never letting anyone know her pain and struggles. She pushed ahead sharing love along the way. Her kids and grandchildren were her world. She will be missed and memories of her will be with us forever. Rest in peace, Mommie
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard B. Jones; son, Gregory Fry, and granddaughter, April Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memories, sons, Jeffery (Debbie) Jones, David (Janine) Jones, Michael (Tangy) Jones; daughters, Lori Fry and Teri Jones; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren, Ricardo Sampson, Grace Gladman, Ben Jones and Willard Jones, Jr. (“Bill Boy”); and a host of other relatives and friends.
