Joyce Lynn Wilson (Hopkins) was born January 17, 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio to Lucille Hopkins and William Ash.
Joyce accepted Christ at a young age as a member of Mt Nebo Missionary Baptist Church. After the passing of her mother in January 1964, Joyce was cared for by her grandmothers Eliza Houston, Sally Hoffman, and her foster parents Herbert and Charlene Bettes.
Joyce joined the United States Air Force in 1984 at the age of 21 and was honorably discharge in 1994 after 10 years of service. She continued to work as a government employee at Fort Sams Army Base in San Antonio Texas where she recently retired after thirty years of service as an IT Specialist. During her employment, she received numerous service awards including six Department of the Army Certificate of Training Awards, years of Dedication Award, Good Behavior Award (while in active duty), and in February 2023 the Department of the Army Civilian Service Achievement Medal.
Joyce was a very giving soul who graciously opened her home to active-duty service men and women during the holidays for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. She was especially proud to share this experience with her daughter Kiyana while teaching her the importance of love, caring, and giving back. Joyce was so proud to see how Kiyana was eagerly waiting to do it all again the following year.
Joyce had many hobbies that included cooking, shopping on QVC/HSN, loving her dogs (Missy Ann and Lil Man) listening to her extensive Motown oldies music collection, and most of all traveling abroad which she was incredibly happy about being able to share with her daughter Kiyana. Joyce loved children, family and just baking cookies with the kids.
Joyce was preceded in death by her daughter Kiyana Lanise Wilson, sister Valerie Hopkins, mother Lucille Hopkins, and father William Ash.
Left to cherish her memories are brother Anthony Stokes (Alicia), sister Jo Ann Hopkins, two aunts Marie Murray and Cherrie Houston of Phoenix Arizona, nieces Jenise Daniels (Bryan), Ashly Marie Lyles, Jamila Kemp, Kamilah Stokes, nephew Milton Lyles, great nieces Zsabryan Chambers (Tony) Zsanise Daniels, Londyn Pilar Daniels, Alexis Kemp, nephew Anthony Kemp and a host of loving great great nieces and nephews.
