Joycelyn Mae Bennafield was born in Cleveland , Ohio on September 16, 1958 to Walter Maloy Sr and Phyllis Foster Maloy. Joycelyn wac; the 4TH child out of six children. Known by Joyce to most or affectionately Mae, by her late husband David Bennafield Sr. She attended Cleveland public schools. She would later in life receive her GED.
Joyce most prized possession was her family!! No one was a better loving Mom or Grandmother than her. Sister Bennafield was selfless !! She loved spending time with family and friends.
Especially her sister Nina! Her door was always open for all who needed a place to stay, eat or just to feel loved. She became a Mother at a young age but didn’t let it stop her from being a hard worker. She worked at White cliff Manor as a nursing assistant for many years until she was injured. Joyce was an avid reader, shopper, painter, crime novelist and action movie lover. But none of these compared to the love she had for Christ Jesus!
Joyce was stylis and always in the know. She loved shopping and going to the movies and could be found at almost any nearby AMC or Cinemark with popcorn in hand. She genuinely enjoyed hearing about the latest social media trends her grandkids shared with her, always listening with curiosity and hwnor. She loved crime shows especially Dateline on ID, paint•by-numbers, family cookouts, and having everyone together. A proud Cleveland sports fan, she faithfully cheered on the Cavaliers, Guardians, and Browns. She loved bold eyeshadow palettes, bright eye looks, and a good wig, believing in showing up put together. She enjoyed cooking, dining out, she especially loved steak, always ordering it so rare we joked the cow had just clocked out. She loved a good game of Monopoly and was hands down the best spades partner at any family cookout! Joyce brought laughter, warmth, and unmistakable personality into every room she entered.
Joyce married David Bennafield Sr, this union they raised 5 children: Allen Bennafield III (son), Latika Maloy (daughter), Shaun Bennafield (son), David Bennafield Jr (son) and Ebony Roberts (daughter). Joyce shared her relationship with Christ with her children. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and remained a devoted Christian until she was called home. She boldly shared her faith, instilling the love of God in everyone she met. Whether through conversation, prayer, encouragement, or example, Joyce made sure those around her knew Christ. She believed in the power of prayer, trusted God in all circumstances, and encouraged others to give their lives to Him.
Joyce had a deep and special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making each of them feel as if they were her favorite. Her love for her great-grandchildren was indescribable.
They would spend time with her all the way to end of her journey on earth. She made sure before they left out for school that they would pray together. This is still done with her great-grandchildren!
Joyce had a long lengthy battle with many health issues that came to an end on January 23, 2026.
Joyce leaves to cherish and honor her memory: her children, siblings Nina Maloy, Derek Foster, Eretta Foster, special friends Vera Brewer, Bernard Patterson, special Niece Charmaine Foster grandchildren: Breyonna Maloy, Brittany Maloy, Brandi Cunningham, Brian Cunningham, Brandon Cunningham, Chardea Harvey, Charde Harvey, Dajae Craig, Diallo Maloy, David Bennafield, Summer Bennafield, Jolie Bennafield, Da’viyahna Braxton, Cassidy Bennafield, Jayden Roberts, Jayce Roberts, Jayme Roberts, Akachi Bennafield, Kyler Bennafield , Truth Lowe, Qui’shonti Trent and host of family and friends..
