In Loving Memory
Juanita Gentry, born in Soperton, Georgia, in 1935, passed away May 9th 2025, peacefully surrounded by family. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she lived a full and beautiful life centered around family, laughter, and a deep love for animals.
She spent her early years in Georgia with her parents and her brother, Jeffery Moore, before meeting the love of her life, Westley Gentry, Sr. After their marriage, the couple relocated to Ohio, where Juanita dedicated her life to raising their seven children: Marilyn Thompson (Samual), Lillie Gentry, Westley Gentry Jr. (Songja), Oneta Caldwell, Ida Jean Gentry, Richard Gentry, and Raymond Gentry.
Juanita had a nurturing spirit that extended far beyond her family. A passionate animal lover, she was known for never turning away a stray—whether it was a dog, a cat, or even a turtle. Her green thumb brought life to every corner of her home and gardens, and she cherished her visits to the local nursery. Nature was her sanctuary, and she made sure her backyard was always welcoming to birds, whom she loved to watch at the feeders she kept well-stocked. Juanita was known to many for her amazing cooking and baking skills. She was especially talented with baking decadent cakes and pies which family and extended family looked forward to indulging in on holidays and birthdays as she was always sure to bake your favorite.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Westley, and her brother Jeffery. Her legacy lives on in her children, her grandchildren—Nickie Gentry, Wesley Gentry-Moore (Mariesa), Stephanie Edwards (Mark), Jameka Roberson (Jamon), and Westley Magee—and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Juanita will be remembered for her engaging conversations, thoughtful gestures, her deep love of family, nature, and all of God’s creatures. Her spirit lives on in every flower she planted, every bird that visits the feeder, and every life she touched.
The family of Juanita Gentry extends heartfelt thanks for your love, support, and presence during this time. Your kindness and shared memories are a great comfort.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to the Akron Haven of Rest Ministries.
