Juanita “Suge” Raynor-Henderson was born on September 24, 1938, in Mason, Tennessee, the second youngest daughter of Elijah and Lula Raynor. She peacefully departed this life on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Juanita received her early education at Fayette County High School, where she attended through the 10th grade. She accepted Christ at an early age and regularly attended church with her parents and siblings. As a child, Suge enjoyed playing sports and spending time with her brothers and sisters. She also discovered a passion for sewing a skill that would later become her lifelong career.
As many of her siblings began relocating north to Cleveland, Ohio, Suge soon followed. In 1960, she made Cleveland her home and began working at Broadway Garment and Upholstery, where she was able to use her God-given talent for sewing. She remained there faithfully until her retirement.
Though Suge never had children of her own, she became a loving mother figure to her niece and nephew, Cynthia and David Carmichael, after the passing of her sister Pecolia “Winnie.” She cared for them deeply throughout their teenage years. Her home became a gathering place for family—especially on Friday evenings—where laughter, love, and togetherness filled the air.
In later years, Suge rededicated her life to Christ and joined Allen Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Phillip Brown on February 5, 2006. She served as an active member until her health began to decline. Even then, she remained devoted, attending Bible study at the Miles-Elmarge Apartments alongside her beloved sister, Lena. The bond between Suge and Lena was one of deep love and devotion—they took care of one another through every season of life. When Suge’s health required more care, her niece Cynthia lovingly stepped in as caregiver, ensuring Suge was cared for and comforted until the Lord called her home to rest.
Suge was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah and Lula Raynor, and siblings: Georgia “Poochie” Yancy, Essie “Gail” Fletcher, Virginia “Tight” Jones, Mary “Biggin” Arnold, Mattie “Tiny” Standback, Hattie Bell Brewer, Willie Joe “Dean” Guyness, Edna Johnson, Pecolia “Winnie” Carmichael, Wilbert Raynor, Drew Raynor, Earnest Raynor, Raymond “Peter” Raynor, Shoate Raynor, Willie Isom “Iki” Raynor, and Lee Thelma “Bessie” Williams (Raynor).
She leaves to cherish her memory one devoted sister and best friend, Lena Bunton-Henderson (Raynor); her honorary children, Cynthia Carmichael and David Carmichael; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
“I love you, rest in peace.”
– Your sister, Lena
