Juanita Thomas’s life, born on June 15, 1933, in Mobile, Alabama, was one filled with faith, dedication, and community service. She was the youngest of two children, with her brother Andrew preceding her in death. Juanita peacefully transitioned from this life from Solon Pointe Rehabilitation Center.
Her spiritual journey began early as she accepted Christ at Mount Zion MBC in Mobile, Alabama. She actively participated in the Young Adult Gospel Choir. After moving to Cleveland, Ohio, she continued her faith journey at New Jerusalem MBC, continuing to be devoted to her church community.
Education was important to Juanita, having attended Mobile public schools and graduating from Central High School. She furthered her education at Spaulding Business College in Mobile, Alabama, graduating in 1951, setting the foundation for her professional career.
For 59 years, Juanita called Cleveland home. She dedicated her professional life to service, starting at Sherwin Williams alongside Mary Hills and later transitioning to the Department of Human Services of Cuyahoga County. Her commitment led her to retirement from Blonder’s.
Juanita was actively involved in various organizations, showing her dedication to community service. She was a member of the NCNW Cleveland chapter, BWPA, ETA PHI BETA SORORITY Cleveland chapter, Mobile Alabama Social Club, TOP’S Cleveland chapter, and The Ageless Wonders of Cleveland, Ohio.
In cherishing her memory, Juanita leaves behind her devoted cousin-nephew Michael C. Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mary E. Williams of Mobile, Alabama, as well as George Jackson III (Carolyn) of Avondale, LA. Additionally, she was surrounded by The Ageless Wonders of Cleveland, Ohio, and held close friendships Judy Brown Dickinson, Jackie Dixon, and Lwanda (Newt) Redwine.
Juanita Thomas will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her faith, education, and the numerous organizations she passionately served. Her legacy of service and compassion will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
