Karen Kapes, 77, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023. Karen was born in Akron to the late Peter and Margaret Kapes, and lived in the Akron area most of her life.

Karen lived her life in service to others. She taught in the St. Vincent High School and Cuyahoga Falls School systems, served as chaplain at Cleveland Clinic/ Akron General Hospital, and most recently worked at the Summa Health Stow-Kent Medical Center. Karen was an active parishioner at St. Bernard Church, where she served as lector, lay minister and outreach minister. She also volunteered at the Catholic Worker of Akron, and at the Peter Maurin Center of Akron since its founding in 2006.

She was preceded in death by family members:  James, Paula, Brandon and Peter Kapes.

Karen is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Sherry Kapes; and nephew, Jamie Kapes and his many loving aunts and uncles.

Visitation at 9:15 a.m., and Funeral Mass at 10:00 a. m. will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at St. Bernard’s Church, Akron.
