Katherine Dortch was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 24, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Eddie and Hattie Carter. She was the sister to the late Delores Calbert and Roosevelt Carter and a dear friend to the late Betty Brown. Katherine confessed Christ at an early age as her personal Savior.
In 1964, Katherine graduated from John Hay High School. She attended Cuyahoga Community College hoping to become a social worker. Later, Katherine was certified as a Home Health Care Assistant. Katherine worked at PVA, an organization for underprivileged children, Kaiser Permanente Foundation, Kinder Care, and Shaker Heights Day Care Centers.
Kat sang with The Greater Friendship Baptist Church, The Carter Sisters, and the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Kat was one of the best cooks in the world and had a great sense of humor. She would certainly make you laugh and should have been on the Comedy Central Network.
In 1995, She was united in Holy Matrimony to Anthony Dortch Sr., whom she loved so much and so dearly. They resided in Akron, Ohio.
She was a faithful and devoted mother. She had one son, Donell Andre` Dixon, who was the apple of her eye, and she adored her daughter-in-law, Olivia Dixon, as well as granddaughters, Tavia Dixon, Tanisha (William) Winston, Asia Dixon, Talia Dixon; stepchildren, Wanda Sly, Denise Burris, Edwin Dortch, Lance Dortch, Cybil Jackson, Anthony Dortch Jr, and her grandson Air’Rakyss Miller.
On August 29, 2021, Katherine departed this life to reunite with her Savior Jesus Christ.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her loving and devoted husband Anthony Dortch; brother, Lawrence Carter; sisters, Martha (Albert) Patton, Geraldine (Fluffy) Carter, Regina (Gregory) Hall, Alfreda Carter; sister-in-law, Cassandra Dortch; dear family friend, Azalee Taylor, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; in-laws, relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
