Katherine “Katt” Wyozetta Smith Jones was born on October 18, 1954, in Akron, Ohio, to William Aaron Smith Sr. and Hazel Wyozetta Clayborne. Katherine was lovingly raised by her paternal grandmother, Fannie Smith, and her Aunt Emma Hale, who played important roles in her life.
Katherine graduated from Buchtel High School in 1973 and continued her education at Akron University and Buckeye College, receiving various certificates in data programming, word processing, and medical coding.

Katherine enjoyed bowling and was a proud member of the Sage Computer Women’s Bowling Team, where she valued the camaraderie and friendships she built. In later years, Katherine faced health challenges with strength and determination, continuing to inspire those around her.
