Kevin was born to Milton, Sr. and Thelma Sipp – September 23, 1957, in Cleveland, OH.
He confessed his faith in Christ at ten years old and asked his parents if he could be baptized. It amazed his parents and it foretold the type of precocious kid he was and the amazing intuitive and empathetic person he would become. He was baptised at the Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Henry Longmire. The Spirit of Christ was evident in his life in the way that he lived and loved people. He attended Cleveland Public Schools. Always a studious and dedicated student, Kevin graduated from East Technical High School and matriculated to Cleveland State University. He worked as a Sterile Processing Technician at St. Vincent Charity Hospital for over thirty years. His infectious smile, friendly, approachable demeanor and professional excellence was noted by everyone who knew him.
As a son, Kevin was especially close to both his parents. He was always willing to help his family in any way that he could. For his four younger siblings, he provided and modeled an example of kindness, empathy, and excellence in everything that he did. He loved sports of every kind and was an avid fan of all the Cleveland teams and Ohio State. He also rooted hard for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. On a Saturday afternoon in the Fall, you could always find him following several games simultaneously. He knew everything about every team and could converse about the finer points of the game as though he was a player or coach. He was the captain of our squad. The respect his siblings had for him cannot be overstated.
Kevin loved music. He was a fan of the classic R & B sound, The Temptations, The Chi-Lites, and Spinners were among the groups that he listened to throughout his life. He and his neighborhood friends had a singing group in which they would often mimic those classic R and B groups, and they did so with style and flair! He also loved Gospel music and enjoyed groups like the Mighty Clouds of Joy and James Cleveland.
For many years, Kevin endured health challenges. But he never complained. He carried himself with grace and gratitude. He loved to be around his family. Our family celebrations were his favorite days of the year. He found joy in the simple moments, playing with the children, inquiring about everyone’s activities, and just enjoying the time we shared. One of our favorite pastimes as a family growing up was singing together. You could always hear his warm baritone voice, filling the room.
Kevin is preceded in death by his father, Milton Sipp, Sr. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his mother, Thelma Sipp; sisters, Myrita (Charles) Wilhite, Myra Sipp, Joyce (Kenneth) Hill; brother, Milton Jr. (Anitra) Sipp; eight nieces and nephews, Jessica (Jason), Candace (Jonathan), Jarred (Devaki), LaVale (Essence), Justin, Malaika, Taj, and Thalia; and eight great nieces and nephews (Cole, Caylee, Camille, Jeremiah, Jayan, Elessia, Logan, and Emara), many cousins from Alabama, California, and other areas across the country; and his best friend since childhood, Grady Holloway.
While our hearts are broken to lose such an amazing man, our son, brother, uncle, and friend, we are filled with love and hope. He has left us a legacy that will live within each of us. We will carry him forward in our hearts until we see him again. We love you, Kevin!
