KOKUMO RUKIYA BEY-JONES Was born in Cleveland Ohio June 19,,1951 under the birth name Roselee Travis (nickname) “Tina”to the parents Elijah Travis and Rosetta Travis (Cunningham). Kokumo attended Cleveland Public Schools where she graduated from Cleveland Extension High School in 1972. She furthered her education by attending Tri C College and Vogue Beauty School as a cosmetologist.
Kokumo was a woman of faith and spirituality, devoting time to a path of continuous spiritual growth, enlightenment and African studies Resulting in her name change January 10,1983 Kokumo relocated and moved to Atlanta GA in 1986, she Married Grace Kelly Jones on December 29th 1987 and started a new journey to explore living in the south as the owners of horses (Gemini, Legacy and Bonfire) and accomplished the dream of owning land and named the road Plum Drive (because Cleveland was known as the Plum)
Kokumo pursued a career in Early childhood teaching young preschool children until her retirement. And extended the love for working with children beyond retirement to tutor children. Kokumo developed a passion for dance (African dance) and became a teacher of dance to young children and an instructor to adults.
Kokumo treasured time working in her Garden, Reading, her Must have Quiet time, Drinking Tea, Yoga, and Long-Distance Phone Conversations. She Especially Loved Devotion time with her Husband, Horse Trail rides, camping, walking on her land, visits back home to Cleveland spending time with family and friends each visit and particularly the Routine Spa days with her daughter and Annual Christmas Holidays with her grandchildren throughout their early childhood years through adulthood.
Kokumo will be remembered for her compassion to listen, uplifting words of inspiration and her strength and strong will.
Kokumo was preceded in death by her Grand Parents (Father side) Doc Travis and Lillie bell Stubbs AND (mother side) Andy Cunningham and Topsie Hall AND HER Parents Elijah and Rosetta Travis and her (Sister )Diane Haynesworth. She is remembered by her (Husband )Grace Kelly Jones,( Daughter ) Certuria Dowdy, (Grand children) Xavier Porch, Malcolm Porch, Malik Kennebrew (Great Grandchildren) Amyris Porch, Xavier Porch jr., Khalil Porch (Sisters) Cassandra Calvin, Nadine Haynesworth, Jaqueline Haynesworth, (Brothers) Elijah Haynesworth, Michael Haynesworth and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Georgia Neighbors and many Loving Friends
