Larry W. Hinton was born on December 28, 1951, in Praco, Alabama. He was the seventh of ten children born to the late Willie and Beulah Hinton.
He graduated from Alden High School in Graysville, Alabama in 1970. Desiring to pursue a better career opportunity, Larry, along with two of his older brothers, relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, in the early 1970s.
It was in Cleveland that Larry met and was united in holy matrimony to Wanda (Faye) Benford. As a result of this union, two beautiful children were born: Larry, Jr. and Lakisha Hinton.
Larry was a loving, kind, and protective father. His daughter Lakisha’s untimely death had a great impact on him. Despite this loss, Larry was an amazing father to his son, Larry, Jr., affectionately known as “Champ.” Larry and Champ spent most of their time together. Although Larry was not a “big talker,” he was an exceptional listener, and he was always listening to Champ. Champ was his pride and joy.
Larry had a big heart, and he would give you his “last.” He was also resolute and decisive. His “no,” was clear and emphatic, especially when dealing with questions about cutting his hair! He loved his hair, and it wasn’t getting cut! He also loved listening to great music, and Gerald Levert and the O’Jays were his favorites. Speaking of favorites, let’s not forget about his love of sports, especially his precious Cleveland Browns! He was a Browns fanatic!
Larry’s simple, quiet demeanor could possibly fool the average person; however, he was super funny and extremely witty, so watch out!
Throughout Larry’s life, his affinity for cars led the way to a related career choice. Larry was a professional mechanic and worked at Yellow Cab for many years before moving to and remaining at Moë’s, until his retirement.
Larry was preceded in death by his three sisters, Rosemary Hinton, Dollie Mae Woods, and Flora Mae Hinton; as well as his daughter, Lakisha Hinton.
He leaves to cherish his memories, devoted son, Larry (Champ) Hinton, Jr.; loving siblings, Willie Hinton, Elizabeth Hinton, James Hinton (Gina), Lewis Hinton (Karen), Darlene Gardner (Hilliard), and Anthony Ray Hinton; cherished grandchildren, Torrean White, Makensie, and Madison Hinton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
