Latoya Lee Thompson transitioned from labor to eternal rest and reward on July 4, 2024 (Latoya’s first favorite holiday) at 12:25am (Christmas, Latoya’s second favorite holiday).
Latoya was born March 21, 1979 to parents Scarlet Joann Sherman and Mose Lee Thompson.
Latoya graduated from Buchtel High School in 1997 and pursued several career paths. Latoya became a self-taught entrepreneur at a young age because she had a passion for children. Beginning as early as age seven, Latoya was always seen with a baby on her hip and earning money. Tiny and petite herself, sometimes the baby seemed bigger than Latoya! She was excellent when singing, doing hair and cooking, just like her Mommy. Latoya and her Mommy were inseparable best friends their entire lives. Always helping the babies, Latoya’s caring and nurturing for children continued throughout her adult life.
Latoya loved family and animals, creating her own circle of communication and relationships during her journey. When the FAMILY village received news of Latoya’s condition, the FAMILY village answered the call, prayed her up and rallied with LOVE and support during and after Latoya’s transition.
Latoya was predeceased by parents, Scarlet Joann Sherman, Mose Lee Thompson, grandparents Anna (nee Sherman) Jackson, Alan Wilson and Katherine Boyd, Mose L Thompson Sr, God Mother Erica Heller, sisters Lawanda Sherman, her infant twin, her infant child, brothers Marc Moore, Rodney Thompson, Gregory Hicks, niece Katayla Sherman, nephew Terrance, pet children Diamond, Sheba, Foxy, Precious.
Latoya’s legacy of LOVE and FAMILY remains with sister Katrella “Twinkie” Sherman, foster sister Destiny, brothers Terrence Thompson, Lee Thompson, John Thompson, pet child Chico, many god-children and her Huge FAMILY village of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends.
When you speak Latoya’s name, her everlasting spirit lives on. Say Latoya often and keep her spirit alive!!! Latoya’s earthly road has ended and her heavenly journey begins!
Per Latoya’s wish, she was cremated. A celebration of Latoya’s life will be held at a later date at the convenience of Family.
A sincere, heartfelt Thank you from the FAMILY for all the prayers, words of comfort, other acts of Love and kindness expressed during this difficult time. Continue to lift each other up in prayer.
