Laura Levy, affectionately known as “Sunshine,” peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 17, 2026. Born in Meridian, Mississippi, on May 10, 1933, Laura was the fourth of seven children born to the late Frank and Winnie Brown.
At an early age, Laura accepted Christ as her Savior. She attended St. Joseph High School in Meridian before relocating to Cleveland, Ohio. A lifelong learner, she earned her Associate degree from Tri-C Community College, followed by her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Special Education from Cleveland State University. Laura dedicated over 30 years to the Cleveland Public School System as a Special Education teacher, touching the lives of countless students with her patience and grace.
Laura was a devoted woman of God who cherished her family above all. For many years, she hosted a Bible study in her home on Talford. She was a pillar of her community, volunteering at the Faith Community Center to mentor teenage girls and enjoying fitness activities with fellow seniors at the community center. An avid gardener, Laura also loved traveling with her husband, particularly enjoying Hawaiian getaways and boat cruises.
At her beloved Bible Baptist Church, Laura served faithfully as an usher, Sunday School teacher, and Vacation Bible School teacher. Even when she could no longer attend in person, she remained active in the faith through online Bible study. At home, she found great joy in sharing meals and playing Uno with her family and friends.
Laura was united in holy matrimony to Robert Levy Sr. for 67 years. To this union, three children were born.
