Lauren’s life unfolded as a beautiful melody, marked by academic achievements and diverse talents. From earning a black belt in Tae Kwon Do to mastering the violin and tuba, she
painted her high school days with hues of accomplishment. A pivotal member of the track team, she contributed to the Lady Comets’ State Championships in her sophomore and
junior years. Simultaneously, her tuba notes resonated through the marching band, earning her the title of bandsman of the year in her senior year.

Lauren’s heart beat with compassion for everyone. She dedicated time to volunteering at a retirement community, brightening the lives of the elderly with thoughtful activities. Post-graduation from Solon High, Lauren’s journey led her to Louisiana State University (LSU), where she played tuba in The Golden Band from Tigerland. It was there that she met Samuel Bowden, her bandmate turned life partner. She was also a member of the LSU Power Lifting team.

On September 6, 2020, Lauren and Sam began a new chapter as they exchanged vows. Their union was blessed with the arrival of Maisyn Terrea Bowden on December 26, 2021. Lauren devoted herself to motherhood, teaching Maisyn sign language from an early age. Beyond Lauren’s academic achievements and vibrant spirit, she was an extraordinary mother and a pillar of support as a wife. Her nurturing touch and unwavering love created a harmonious home for Maisyn, where patience and creativity were woven into every moment. Lauren’s early dedication to teaching Maisyn sign language reflected a profound bond that went beyond words.

After a brave battle, Lauren peacefully departed on the night of December 24, 2023. She is survived by her loving husband, Samuel Bowden, and precious daughter, Maisyn. Her memory is cherished by her mother and step-father, Tangi McCoy and Mark Burnside, her father, Jerry Russell, parents-in-law, Steven and Tammy Bowden, grandmother, Parbirda McCoy, step-grandmother, Leora McCoy, aunts Eliza Harris, Zrandra “Dott” Peek (née McCoy), Pamela Maxwell (née McCoy), Angela Russell, Lois Bradford, and Joyce Bradford, uncles Reginald Peek, Troy Bradford, and Richard Bradford, along with many beloved cousins, extended family, and dear friends. Lauren’s infectious smile, warmth, and humor will be fondly remembered, a gentle echo of a
life well-lived.

My deepest sympathy is sent her family. Lauren was an amazing person and could brighten anyones day. I was lucky to have known her throughout high school. May she rest in peace.

I will never forget Lauren and how amazing of a person she was. We first interacted on Twitter coming into the 2015 LSU Tiger Band and she was even so kind when we were trying to figure out band camp and being scared little freshmen. I got to know Lauren through my entire Tiger Band career and her joy, personality, and kindness is unmatched. Many condolences to her family during this difficult time and may she and her spirit live on in our hearts.

Lauren will be greatly missed!! I feel so lucky to have known her and hope to one day meet Maisyn. Praying so hard and I know she will always be with y’all!
