It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Lavelle Governor Pascol Jr., who departed from this world on January 30, 2024, after bravely battling brain cancer. Lavelle was born on March 28, 2013, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Shamyia Jackson and Lavelle Pascol Sr. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering strength.
Lavelle’s familial ties were deeply rooted, and his departure is mourned by his extended family. He is survived by his maternal grandmother, Kasena Jackson, and paternal grandfather, Abdul Giles. On his father’s side, he is remembered by his paternal grandfather, Lavelle Pascol, and maternal grandmother, Priscilla Winnick. In addition to his grandparents, Lavelle is survived by seven sisters, three brothers and a host of aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.
Lavelle’s educational journey began at St. Francis School, where he navigated the early years of K-5 education. A talented athlete, he distinguished himself on the basketball court, proudly donning the number 12 jersey. Lavelle harbored a passion for literature, cherished culinary arts, and aspired to become a fashion designer, showcasing his multifaceted interests and ambitions.
His spiritual journey was marked by a profound commitment to faith. Lavelle was baptized on February 14, 2016, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. His connection with God was evident from a young age, as he commenced praying at the tender age of 2, displaying a profound love for his faith.
A pillar of his family, Lavelle embraced his role as a big brother with unparalleled enthusiasm. Family movie nights were a cherished tradition, where he demonstrated his leadership qualities, always taking charge and supporting his siblings, Lyric Pascol (9) and Zephaniah Sales (7). Lavelle’s devotion extended beyond his siblings, as he found joy in helping his mother, Shamyia Jackson, ensuring she received the assistance she needed. His culinary skills were a source of delight for the family, as he took pleasure in cooking and contributing to the well-being of his loved ones.
Lavelle’s hobbies encompassed a wide range of activities, from engaging with social media on TikTok to showcasing his talent in dancing and basketball. He had an appreciation for the culinary arts, relishing in favorites like paydays, milkshakes, Jr. bacon cheeseburgers, donuts, and sunny delight. His love for gaming, playing outside, and Facetime interactions highlighted the vibrant and diverse interests that shaped his joyful spirit.
Fond memories of Lavelle include his distinctive birthmark covering his entire eye, which he embraced as a unique aspect of his identity. A left-handed individual, he exhibited a strong sense of intuition, particularly attuned to his mother’s well-being. He found his mother’s jokes to be profoundly funny and Lavelle’s caring nature was evident when he remarked to his mother during his illness, “I can tell something is wrong; you’re not funny anymore.” His commitment to cleanliness and organization showcased his responsible and meticulous nature.
In moments of reflection, Lavelle shared his profound thoughts, expressing his desire to “fight the devil” if the world were to end tomorrow. This exemplifies his unwavering character, always prioritizing others over himself. The heartfelt message he chose to leave in his mother’s Build-A-Bear, stating, “Everything is going to be ok,” encapsulates the depth of his compassion and reassurance.
During a poignant moment at Build-A-Bear, Lavelle, known for his sweetness, named his bear “Love,” leaving an enduring reminder of his affectionate spirit. He is survived by his grandparents, ten siblings and a host of aunties, uncles, and cousins, all of whom will remember him as a caretaker, a little gentleman carrying a bag, and a source of unconditional love.
In memory of Lavelle Governor Pascol Jr., we celebrate a young life that touched the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
