Lawrence Alfred Bowles entered the heavenly arms of God July 11, 2022. He was born on June 27, 1949, to the late Simuel A. Bowles and Betty L. Bowles in Akron, Ohio.
Larry gave his life to Jesus at the age of twelve and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church until his adult years. He rededicated his life to the Lord about fifteen years ago. Larry was a boy scout in Macedonia under the leadership of James Roberts.
Larry loved working outside and always kept a job, his first job was at Glover Elementary School at the age of twelve working with school custodians. He attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from Garfield High School in 1969. After graduating, he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Upon honorary discharge, Larry embarked on a career of becoming a heavy operator engineer – he became a member of the Ohio Operating Engineer Local 18.
Larry was a man of many talents, interests, abilities, and hobbies: He loved fishing, he knew how to repair cars and appliances, had the ability to work on electronics, he loved to cook and bake always trying new recipes. He was a source of information on the Armed Forces, warships, guns of any kinds, politics, the government and much more! One of Larry’s hobbies was making beautiful canes and walking sticks. He enjoyed listening to jazz, and he enjoyed most sports with the Pittsburgh Steelers being his favorite football team.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Bowles; father, Simuel Bowles; and brothers-in-law, John, Diwight, Eli, and Doug Smith; and Myra’s mother, Loretta Christian.
Left to cherish his memory, daughters, Myra Bowles, and Tuwanna Christian; granddaughter, Chariss Henderson; mother, Betty L. Bowles; sisters, Jackie (Eugene) Edingburgh, Barbara (Jerome) Parker; brother, Antoine (Olivia) Bowles; nieces, Nikki Smith, Chinna Parker, LeiSan Smith, Sharee (Romeo) Parker-Travis; nephews, Jerome Parker, Jr., and Joshua Parker; special friends, Floyd Jefferies and Eddie Lot; his favorite loving dogs, Sampson and Deliah; as well as a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
