Lawrence Hanson III was born January 27th 1943 to Ladora and Lawrence Hanson Jr. in Cleveland, Ohio. Lawrence Hanson who was nicknamed Junie Junior by the family was the oldest of four siblings: Bennie DeWitt Hanson, Claudia Eileen Hanson-Houghton (Baby Doll) and, William Hanson (Billy), Whom have proceeded him in death.
Lawrence was a father of five strong and resilient children, Pamela Switzer (Mattie Lattimore), Karl Williams (Jaqueline Williams), Clevett E. Hanson (Christine Simms), and Cassaundra L. and Lawrence Hanson IV (Sandra Hanson).
In 1966 Lawrene joined the United States Army where he was stationed in Vietnam. He loved sharing stories of the things he had seen and done during those times. Lawrence earned a Bronzed Star Medal. When Lawrence returned to Cleveland in 1969, Lawrence began working at Lincoln Electric as a Machinist, where he continued to work until he retired.
Lawrence found the time he needed to put family first. Saturdays was skate night; Sundays was Church and visiting friends but mostly family.
Lawrence, who was called Larry by his friends enjoyed life to the fullest. He told so many truths of his life and growing up. Larry was a jack of all trades; he was a barber, seamstress, auto mechanic, electrician and carpentry. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. The first house he bought, he put his hands to work from rewiring, pluming building, landscaping. You name it he did it. He loved being a runner, cyclist, and skater; as weight training, as well weight training, but most importantly he was the Health Guru and Herbalist before his time. While no one could fathom giving up meat as a protein back then, Lawrence could. He strongly believes in taking care of his temple (body).
When Lawrence came back from Vietnam, he decided to become a vegetarian and no longer indulge in smoking. His nickname at work was” porkchop” because he was vegetarian (self-taught). He disagreed with many modern medicines so begin to teach himself herbalist medicine. Lawrence would take daily runs at Forest Hill Park. As a cyclist Lawrence would ride his bike everywhere, in full cyclist gear, traveling all over Ohio and riding to work. We loved to hear his stories of one- man bike travel to Canada.
As his children grew up and starting pathing their own ways, Larry began to spend that time with his Grandchildren. He loved taking them skating every Saturday as he had done his own. Lawrence enjoyed traveling out of town to skate as well; however, his favorite spots was united Skates and PalMor where he earned the name “Skate Doctor”. He enjoyed repairing skaters, skates. Lawrence was a smooth dude on them skates, gliding like he was on air.
No Matter where Larry was, he was ALWAYS in his element! Communication was for him. He loved to talk. He wouldn’t just do it; he was going to show you. He wanted you to be able to do it for yourself, so each one can teach one. Daddy’s knowledge, Wisdom, Heart, Love and Soul will be missed. We love you, Daddy!
Lawrence leaves to cherish his memories; siblings Marvin and Darnell Holiman, Jeffery Carr, Karen Patterson, Cheryl Bouldin (John), Grandchildren Shannon Priest, Chantiah Pitts, William Robinson IV,
Gerrel C. Hanson, Alexander D Hanson, Christopher J. Hanson, Jazzurus Bell, Daylis Hanson, and ZyAir Scott; and a Host of Great- Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
