Lawrence Lee Williams, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 19, 2021.
Lawrence, who was affectionately called ‘Lee’ by his family and friends, was born January 30, 1948, in Sparta, Georgia to Linton and Mattie Williams. The family relocated to Akron, Ohio when Lee was two years old.
He attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from South High School.
After graduating high school, Lee joined in the United States Army in 1966 where he proudly served with the 1st Special Forces, and as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. In addition, he also served with the 82nd Airborne Division. Lee was injured while serving and was hospitalized for a year following his injury. Even after facing a challenging recovery and recuperation, he continued to persevere — that’s just the kind of man he was. Lee received a Certificate of Appreciation from our then president, Richard Nixon, thanking Lee for his service in our armed forces. During his time in the service, Lee received two Purple Hearts for his valor and courage. He was honorably discharged in 1971. Lee was a proud Vietnam Veteran and was honored to have served his country.
Lee completed a four-year training program through the Local 18 Operating Engineers of Ohio. Upon graduation, he was a licensed operating engineer and worked for several construction companies. He worked for Lockhart Construction company for many years, and eventually retired from TAB Construction Company. He was a member of Local 18 Operating Engineers of Ohio.
Lee married the love of his life, Trinia Turman, on May 17, 1986, and their love story continued for 35 years. To this union, two beautiful sons were born: Lawrence Alexander and Daniel Armonde. Through all of the trials and tribulations Lee faced, he demonstrated resilience and grace as he handled each trial, and his sons knew him as their ’Superman’.
Bro. Lee was a devoted member of The House of the Lord where he served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher, member of the Security Team and member of the House of the Lord Kingdom Men Ministry. Lee was called to serve and was passionate about helping others and this was further evidenced when he formed The House of the Lord Kingdom Men Prostate Cancer Awareness Ministry/ Support Group.
Lee could light up a room with his smile and was known for his hugs and making everyone with whom he came in contact feel better by just being in his presence. He was an encourager and never met a stranger.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, godfather, mentor, cousin, and friend. Lee was a loyal and courageous Christian man who was generous and respected by all.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Linton and Mattie Williams; sister, Norma Jean Williams; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Augusta and Annie Dean Turman and godson, Jason Davis.
Lee leaves to cherish his memory devoted and loving wife of 35 years, Trinia Williams; sons, Lawrence A. Williams and Daniel A. Williams; sister, Kathleen (Jerry) Turner; brother-in-law, Augusta Turman, Jr.; grandpuppy, Goonie; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
