The sun rose on the life of Leatrice Joy Carter on July 4, 1943, born to her mother, Catherine Carter (preceded her in death). She had one sibling, Deborah Martin (preceded her in death).
On December 20, 2025, the sun set on this precious life as Leatrice transitioned peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Affectionately known as Lee, Leatrice attended East High School in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating in 1962. After high school, she continued her education in college, gaining the skills that would guide her throughout her life and career. She began her professional journey working in a doctor’s office for many years before discovering her true calling as a Data Entry Operator for the Cleveland Police at the Justice Center. After a dedicated 28-year career, she retired with pride and accomplishment.
Leatrice lived a vibrant and fulfilling life. She enjoyed playing golf, fencing, bowling, planting flowers, and listening to her favorite music—especially “Gerald Levert.” She loved playing the piano and traveling, but above all, she cherished raising and teaching her grandchildren. Leatrice delighted in dressing to impress, often wearing her mink coats as she spent time with friends. She also adored her dogs and never turned down an ice-cold Pepsi or a good cup of coffee.
Leatrice had one child, Kimberly Carter, who blessed her with a host of grandchildren whom she loved and cared for unconditionally: Rodney (Sarah), Cymbre, Christin, Karlene, ReNesha, and Tyeisha. She also shared a lifelong bond with her three sister-friends: Bernice Hodges, Carolyn Crenshaw, and Beverly Stewart, who were always by her side.
She leaves behind a remarkable legacy of one child, six grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren: Nasir, JaQoine, JaeDen, Kalice, Richard, Cartier, Kaleah, Ka’Lyn, Riniya, Olivia, Mayson, Richira, Kamari, Richod, and Taylin; and one great-great-grandchild, Deziyah. She is also survived by her niece Nicole, nephew Craig, great-nephew Deshane, Aunt Carol, Cousin Corey, and an abundance of other family members and loved ones.
Her favorite saying was, “When I leave this world, don’t cry for me. I’m OK in the presence of the Lord.”
Leatrice will be loved, missed, and remembered by all whose lives she touched
