Leon Michael Jordan was born January 2, 1953. He was the second son born to Ivy Jordan and Catherine Ellis Jordan. He passed away peacefully on November 12, 2017.
Raised in Boston Massachusetts where he attended public schools, he was brought up in the Baptist church where his grandmother Georgia Jean Ellis attended. Leon sang all the old hymns and could play the organ. His favorite songs were “I stood on the Banks of Jordan” and “Precious Memories”. He moved to Akron, Ohio thirty years ago to be close to family and became a member of the First Apostolic Faith Church now under the leadership of Pastor Samuel L. Hampton II.
Leon loved caring for people and enjoyed the field of nursing. For twenty-five years, he was a nurse’s aide before becoming a LPN. Leon did private duty nursing for several families with whom he remained closely connected to, even after his assignments were completed. He was considered a faithful nurse and caregiver as well as a good conversationalist by all of his clients. In his spare time, Leon loved driving a limousine and chauffeuring clients around town.
Leon loved his family and friends. He would literally talk until he ran out of breath. He loved to entertain and enjoyed an occasional cocktail. With such a bubbling personality, Leon made an impression everywhere he went. He never met a stranger and if he called you “friend” you were family.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Ivy and Catherine Jordan; stepmother, Bernice Jordan. He is survived by his brother Wayne Ivey, of PA; special mother aunt Mamie Toole; sisters, Cheryle, Sara, Myrna, Kathryn and Kella; special friends and family, Deborah, Gloria, Jamie, Seante, Tia, Mr. & Mrs. Terry Danzy, Mark, Mario, Michael, Randall, Wilbur and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
