Leon Clifton Moody was born July 3, 1923, in Palmyra, Tennessee, Montgomery County to the union of Late Homer Leon Moody and the Late Lena A. (Dortch) Moody. He departed this earth to be with our Lord and Savior on October 15, 2024. Leon always believed in being patient that the good Lord would always take care of him, his family and all problems. He did not worry about anything the Good Lord was in control. He stated that “Helen and I have lived a good life thanks to the Good lord.” Leon was a true servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents Homer Leon Moody and Lena A. (Dortch) Moody, four brothers, Homer Leon Moody, Jr., John Washington Moody, Major Lee Theophis Moody, Robert Bell Moody and two daughters Janice Moody and Carolyn Ann Rodgers Calhoun.
Leon was educated in the Clarksville Montgomery School System TN. He graduated from historic Burt High School Clarksville, Tennessee in 1943. He entered Tennessee A & I College (Now Tennessee State University) in 1947 and graduated with a BS degree in1951.
His hobbies were Golf, studying his bible and attending church.
Leon married the love of his life Helen on July 02,1972. Their union has lasted 52 years.
Leon had a wide range of work experiences. He was a Farmer, Odd jobs-Washing down steps, Doorman parking cars at Country Club, Substitute Teacher, Science Teacher at Alexander Hamilton School. Then, he worked at Vocational Guidance Services, Cleveland, Ohio for 19 years and 2 months as a Vocational Service Supervisor and Counselor. He evaluated people for potential jobs. He had was a Tax and Finance Advisor.
When Leon was younger, his family attended Mount Herman AME Church, Palmyra TN. Then Mount Herman closed, then the family moved to Martin Chapel AME Church, Clarksville, TN. Leon moved to Cleveland the Saturday before Easter in 1946. He attended Lee AME Church Cleveland, Ohio. He joined Lane Metropolitan CME Church Cleveland Ohio in 1960. During his tenure at Lane, Leon served as Steward, President of Steward Board No. 1 served until 2012,President of Methodism’s Men Fellowship, Board member of Director’s of Lane’s Credit Union, President of Lane’s Credit Union for several years, Head of Tutoring Program in conjunction with Cleveland Board of Education, Lane’s Church Treasurer, Assistant Church Treasurer, Payroll Clerk, member of Wednesday Evening Bible Class, Budget committee, and Sunday school. Also served on CME Annual Conference Level -Joint Board of Finance. He was a great supporter of his church.
Remaining to cherish precious memories are his loving wife, Helen K. Moody; sisters-in-laws Elizabeth (James) Sanders, and Willie Jenkins ; nieces and nephews Angeli Persons, Mark (Sonya) Persons, Howard Henry, Deborah Henry, Sharon Maquita(Alan Stapler) Moody, Jamye (Joseph) Gilliard, Debra (Turhan) Payne-Bey: cousins Ruby Turner and Bennie Collins; Friends Lloyd and Marilyn Tatum, Gerlene Gullie, Rev. Gregory Ivory, Rev. Dr. Yolande Prevo-Petty and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
