Leroy Herring, 86, of Akron, Ohio went home to be with the lord on, Monday, March 22, 2020. Mr. Herring was born on October 28, 1934, in Clayton, Alabama to the union of the late Robert and Georgia Herring. He served in the United States Air Force, in different capacities with the 801st Air Division. His last assignment was with the 301st Bombardment Group stationed at the Lockbourne Air Force Base in Ohio. During his term of service, he traveled to different parts of the world assisting his unit the 301st Air Refueling Wing. He received an Honorable Discharge after completing 6 years of service in 1960.
He was employed by Ken-Tool in the city of Akron, as a machinist and Tow Motor operator retiring in 1996. He also served as a manager of The Helping Hand Social Club.
One of his many passions was baseball and he spent many summers playing on The Helping Hand Social Club baseball team. His other passions were playing cards, music, and dancing. If a new dance came out, Leroy knew how to do it.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Herring; his parents and grandson Jason Pruitt.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted sister (caretaker), Maggie Lois (Vincent) Webb; daughters, Katina Herring, and Monita James; sons, Torrence Herring, Andre (Carmen) Herring, Roland (Linda) Pruitt, and Leroy Jr; grandchildren, Myka, Rica, Rekia, Isaiah, Elijah, Asia (James), Andre Jr, Da’shawn, Justin, Ziesha, Da’Andre, Kisha and Rodall; 29 great-grandchildren; he also leaves special nephew, Stevie Myer; special niece, Diann (John) Peake; special friend, Ms. Dorothy Johnson and a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
