Obituary Lilton O’Neal Poindexter Jr.
Lilton O’Neal Poindexter Jr., was born to Lilton O’Neal Sr. and Leila Poindexter on April 21, 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio. Lilton accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Avon Avenue Baptist Church. He later became a member of Bethany Christian Church. He attended school in the Shaker Heights school system, where he formed lifelong friendships and laid the groundwork for his future, proudly graduating from Shaker Heights High School with the Class of 1979.
Rooted in his Baptist faith, Lilton carried his spiritual values into every aspect of his life. Guided by a strong work ethic and a desire to build something of his own, he pursued his passion for business and became a successful entrepreneur. As the owner and operator of his own landscaping business, Lilton took immense pride in his craft, transforming landscapes and leaving a tangible mark of beauty and care on the community he served.
Lilton had a passion for sports and his favorite sport was basketball. In carrying on his legacy, he often provided “sideline coaching” in various sports to his grandchildren. One of his favorite things to do was to take his grandchildren for ice cream every day he was with them.
Lilton’s life will be remembered for the passion he poured into his family, work, his devotion to his faith, and the lasting impact he made on those around him. After a valiant fight Lilton departed this life on Wednesday September 2, 2026 to rest eternally in his heavenly home.
Lilton is preceded in death by his parents, Lilton O’Neal Sr. and Leila, his sisters Patricia and Jolynn, his brother Jerome, and nephew Robert.
Lilton leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved daughters, Ariana (Will) Miller, Tarresha (Donald) Newsom, step-daughter, Trinita Phillips, step-son Donnell Phillips, sister, Barbara Anne Lacey, sister-in-law Brenda Whigham, brother-in-law Gary Huff, grandchildren, Elise Newsom, Adonis Newsom, Gabriel Martin, Jaci Phillips, DonYe` Phillips, aunt Callie Benson, nieces Danielle Anderson, Kimberly, (Karleo) McKenzie, nephews Sean Lacey, Jason Lacey, Rufus Orr Jr (Surrayah), Terry Orr, special cousin Renee Wright, a special mention of appreciation to Anita Poindexter Pearson and Patricia Fowler, a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

We feel so lucky and blessed to have known Mr. Poindexter. Our family was introduced to him through his daughter, Tarresha, and from the very beginning, he welcomed us as though we were family.
Whenever we saw him, he made us feel welcome. He had such a generous spirit and a genuinely kind heart. We will always remember the time he came and mowed our lawn, simply because he wanted to help, and the thoughtful gift he gave our daughter that showed how much he cared.
