Lisa Williams was born on January 4, 1980, in Akron, Ohio, to her loving parents, Joe and Jeanette Williams. She graduated from North High School in 1998 and pursued higher education, earning an associate degree in Health Care Administration from Brown Mackie College. Lisa’s academic journey did not stop there; she continued her studies at Strayer University and American University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on management.
Lisa’s commitment to education was evident as she further pursued a master’s in public health administration, followed by a master’s in business administration. Her dedication culminated in the achievement of a dual master’s degree in emergency management, Disaster Relief, and Homeland Security as well as a master’s in education. All her master’s degrees were conferred by American University, where she graduated with honors and was a proud member of both the Golden Key International Honor Society and Alpha Chi Honor Society.
Beyond her academic achievements, Lisa was a certified nail technician and a certified braiding technician. She also had a passion for gardening, facilitating a vibrant community garden at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church that fostered fellowship and growth within her community. She had a profound love for plants, which enriched her life. Lisa also enjoyed music, movies, and painting, often finding joy in creative expression.
Before Lisa became ill, she worked as a Restorative Nursing Assistant, Office Manager, Accountant, Business Consultant, and Teacher. One of her greatest pleasures was spoiling the children in her life, earning her the affectionate titles of “Grandma Lisa” and “Auntie Lisa.” At the age of 11, Lisa dedicated her life to Christ, becoming a devoted member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church. She also engaged with The Light Church through online services, reflecting her deep spiritual commitment.
Lisa entered eternal rest on December 20, 2024, at Akron City Hospital. She is mourned by her lifetime partner of 27 years, Dr. Vershawn Kirksey Sr.; her parents, Joe and Jeanette Williams; her sisters, Crystal and Joezette Williams; her niece, Andrea Gaiter; her nephew, Robert Flinn; and her stepchildren, Vershawn Kirksey Jr. and La’Shawntique Kirksey, along with five grandchildren and three great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sterling and Naomi Williams, and Robert and Bertha James. Lisa’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
