In Loving Memory of Lois Opal Smith

Lois Opal Smith was born on June 19, 1927, in Beech Bottom, West Virginia, to the late James and Kate Eleanor Sands Wiggins. She received her early education in West Virginia, attending elementary school and Lincoln High School. At an early age, Lois was baptized and became a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in West Virginia.

Lois married John J. Webb, and from this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Rosemary. Later, the family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where Lois joined Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church. She was an active and devoted member of the church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and holding various offices within the Missionary Society. She ensured her daughter, Alison, and grandsons, Chris and Craig were active participants in Sunday school and many church ativities and events.

Lois was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an active member of the Cleveland Genealogy Society, where she held several offices and developed a deep appreciation for preserving family history and connecting generations. She was an artist and created many pictures and ceramics for friends and family. She found joy in creating beautiful drawings and ceramics, generously sharing her artwork with family and friends.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Lois spent more than 30 years working at University Hospitals as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Physical Therapy Assistant. Her caring spirit extended far beyond her professional life. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to church members, neighbors, family, and friends. Lois was known for her generosity, compassion, and willingness to care for others. She also loved cooking and took great joy in preparing meals for her family and bringing loved ones together around the table.

Later in life, Lois married Arlington Smith, and from this union came her daughter, Alison. Lois was the beloved matriarch of her family and cherished every opportunity to bring her loved ones together, especially through family reunions. Family was at the heart of who she was, and she worked to keep those bonds strong across generations.

Lois leaves behind a beautiful legacy of compassion, togetherness, service, and unconditional love for her family, friends, church, and community. Her life touched countless people, and her memory will continue to live on through the generations she nurtured and loved.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, James and Kate Eleanor Sands Wiggins; her husband; her great-grandson, Christopher Allen Hubbard Jr.; her brothers, Harold and Paul Wiggins; and her sisters, Marguerite Cannon, Pauline McHenry, Ethel Davis, and Katherine Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Rosemary and Alison; four grandchildren, Christopher Sr. (Monica), Craig, Ayana, and Aman; and one brother, Kenneth Wiggins. She also

leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.

Lois Opal Smith will be remembered for her caring heart, strong work ethic, devotion to family, commitment to her church and community, and the love she so freely gave to others. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of all who knew and loved her.
