Service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. at Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, 104 N. Prospect St., Akron, Ohio 44304, Rev. Dr. Charles Tyler Sr., officiant, and eulogist. Lonnie Edward Hubbard was born, February 21, 1939, in Akron, Ohio, to the parents of Frank and Ella Hubbard. He was a graduate of Garfield High School. Lonnie was married to Carol for 55 years of marriage, and he said, “If I had to do it over again, I would marry her again.” Their union was blessed with five wonderful children.
Lonnie was a faithful member of Wesley Temple AME Zion Church for over fifty years. In November 2014, he was honored by his church as Man of the Year for his outstanding dedication and service to his church and community. During his church membership, Lonnie served as a bus driver, class leader, and trustee. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 39 years of service.
He served in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis. Lonnie was a member of Phoenix Lodge #112. His hobbies and special interests included roller skating, gardening, landscaping, exercising, swimming, and ice skating. Lonnie loved to take family vacations, and after he retired, he traveled on many vacations with his wife.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his infant son Mark, parents Frank and Ella Hubbard, brothers, John, Charles, and Dale, sisters, Evelee, Bertha, and Yvonne.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Hubbard; children; Marsha Hubbard (Oatis McCrea) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Monica (Richie) Gooden of Columbus, OH, Marla Williams of Columbus, OH, Martin (Carissa) Hubbard of Reisterstown, MD. Grandchildren; Ameenah, Sabreen, Brianna, Ataa, Tyler, Sydney, Solomon, Samiyah, Sanaa and Selah. Great-grandson, Kaysan Carroll. Goddaughters; Samara Strode, Candace Johnson and Godson, Rev. Rodney G. McNab, Sr. Brothers, Barry (Evelyn) Hubbard, Tommy (Yvonne) Hubbard; sister, Terri Costa; sisters-in-law, Dione Grant and Carolyn Hubbard; brothers-in-law, Milton Grant and Emmit Strode, cousin Willie Mae Williamson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We celebrate the knowledge and wisdom that Lonnie Hubbard bestowed upon many and he will be in our hearts forever and ever.
