Mother Lorene (Davis) Pitts, 92, went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2025. She was born on October 27, 1932 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to John E Davis, Sr. & Bessie Clark-Davis. Mother Pitts was the youngest of 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. She attended school in Tennessee. Later, she met and married her husband James Lee Pitts. Her brother Robert Davis encouraged them to move North. They eventually settled in Akron, Ohio. James and Lorene never had natural children. However, they became guardians of her sister Bessie Mae Davis-Powell’s daughter, Dorothy, following a car accident that claimed the life of Bessie.
Mother Pitts attended Bethel Baptist for a while but moved her membership to Pilgrim Rest Apostolic Church under Bishop Banks. It was there that she was baptized in the name of Jesus and received the Holy Ghost. Later her husband became pastor of a small storefront church until he passed away in 1989. Since then she was under watchcare at First Apostolic Faith Church. Mother Pitts worked off and on as a home health aid. Her last position was with Mature Services in Akron, Ohio. She loved to do crossword puzzles, read tabloid magazines, study the Bible and visit the sick and shut in. She also loved her Church’s Chicken, Coca Cola, fried okra, & pork rinds (skins).
