Louise was born on December 29, 1928 in Talladega, AL to the late Robert and Luvenia McGhee. She attended Drewry High School, a private school in Talladega. She sang in a traveling quartet and whatever the range, I’m sure she probably could sing it. She went on to graduate from West Side High in 1949. She married George Buchanan Sr. at the age of 24 and to this union was born four children, in-addition a daughter from a previous relationship. Louise moved to Akron, OH in 1959. She worked at St. Thomas Hospital as an STNA (State Tested Nurse Assistant) for 21 years. She also received recognition awards for saving patient’s lives. She was very proud to be a STNA. She enjoyed working out at the spa and enjoyed the luxury of sitting in the steam room all day long, sometimes until the spa closed. Louise officially retired from the workforce in 2008. In the immediate family, she was the Matriarch of the family, because she taught them values and valuable work ethics. Her favorite quote to them was “If you ain’t gonna do something right then don’t do it at all.” She was a dedicated member at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and she served as an usher until she was unable to attend church. She loved God and despite not being able to attend church, she faithfully watched the Word of God on TBN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Luvenia McGhee; brothers, Thomas Burt, Robert McGhee, Dalton McGhee, J.C. McGhee, and Warren Mcghee; sisters, Charlie Mae Jenkins, Beatrice Storey, Josephine Gillis, Katheleen McGhee and Luverta Hall; granddaughter, Marqweeta Star Buchanan Hogan.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Hazel Brooks, Dr. George Buchanan Jr., Antoinette Taylor, Deborah Buchanan and Jesse Buchanan; brother, Zack McGhee, Odessa Smoot and Mary Jane Dates; special granddaughter, Nicole Virden, who she raised and considered to be her daughter; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, and friends.
