Our beloved Lucille Willie Burney was born on March 16, 1939, in Pinckard, Alabama to the union of the late Lunnie and Willie Carroll, to this union she was the eldest of seven children. She was married to the late James Burney Sr. for over 45 years. On Monday October 30, 2023, God, in His infinite wisdom, saw fit to bring Lucille’s journey to a peaceful close and transitioned her home. She has had a long battle and now she is finally at peace and will be deeply missed.
Lucille was educated within the Akron public school system and graduated from South High School in 1958. She received an associate degree from Hammel Business College in Akron, OH. She was employed at Valley View Nursing Home for an extended period until she decided to change career paths and started working for Summit County Children Services in the receiving unit. While employed there she touched the lives of many children, who she would run into as adults, and they would thank her for the kind and loving spirit that she showed them in their time of need. She was employed with Summit County Children Services for over 20 years, from which she retired.
At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal savior. She was a long standing and faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Akron, OH and served in several capacities, including the nursing board. She enjoyed spending her free time gardening, knitting, baking, crocheting, bingo, taking pictures, traveling and most of all family gatherings.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents Lunnie and Willie Carroll, husband James Burney Sr., sons Ronnie Burney, Anthony Burney, and James Burney Jr., daughter Antoinette Burney, and sisters Christine Simon, Doris Rogers, Jeanette Conley, and Wilie Mae Hooks.
She leaves to celebrate the memory and legacy of her life: daughter Sharon (Herbert) Clark, son Oscar (Charisse) Burney, sister Bernice (Charlie) Mitchell, brother Fred Carroll, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, several sister and brother in laws, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
