Grandma,
Though I had a different relationship with you than the other grandchildren, I pray that you are resting peacefully and know that I did everything in my power—and within my profession—to make you proud. This last year showed me that, no matter what, love and respect will see you through. I’ve advocated for you, protected you, and loved you to the best of my ability as you progressed through your diagnosis of dementia.
I pray that I made you proud in knowing that I wouldn’t take no for an answer and fought tooth and nail to ensure that your needs, requirements, and desires were met during this transition. My mother is going through a rough time—she always struggled with the reality that she was losing you to this horrible diagnosis. And now that you’ve departed this earth, it’s hard for her to come to grips with the fact that she can no longer physically touch, see, or hear you.
You’ve visited her in her dreams, telling her that you are alright, and I hope that one day she can find peace and solace in knowing that. I will NEVER stop being there for her, and know that I will ALWAYS love and protect her.
Get your rest, Grandma.
